The whole life
  1. 1895

    Professor at the Munich Academy

From 1895 he teaches painting at the Munich Academy; his students include Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Josef Albers, Hans Purrmann, Josef Hengge, Georg Kars, Paul Stollreither, Heinrich Strieffler and Alf Bayrle. Young artists go on respecting him as a professor even after his style falls out of fashion.

    Daughter born: Mary Stuck

  3. 1897

    Marries Mary Lindpaintner

Marries the American widow Mary Lindpaintner; her son, the future aviation pioneer and racing driver Otto Lindpaintner, becomes his stepson. A year earlier, in 1896, the artist's only daughter, Mary (1896–1961), had been born of his relationship with Anna Maria Brandmaier (1875–1944).

  4. 1897

Begins work on the Villa Stuck

He begins designing his own residence and studio, the Villa Stuck, on Prinzregentenstrasse in Bogenhausen (Munich): everything from the layout to the interior decoration, with furniture and sculptures of his own design. The villa gives form to the idea of the “Gesamtkunstwerk”, combining the aesthetics of Jugendstil with reverence for antiquity.

  5. 1897 · Career

    Whistler's society in London

He becomes a member of the International Society of Sculptors, Painters and Gravers, founded in London by James Whistler in 1897.

  6. 1900

Gold medal at the Paris World Exposition

He receives a gold medal at the Paris World Exposition for his furniture — he had designed the Villa Stuck entirely himself, from the layout to the furnishings.
