In the museum's own words — in Dutch

In 1644 reisde de Nederlandse schilder Allaert van Everdingen naar Zweden. Het Scandinavische landschap moet veel indruk op hem hebben gemaakt, want hij zou het zijn hele leven blijven schilderen. Dit doek, dat hij terug in Nederland vervaardigde, verkocht Van Everdingen aan de Amsterdamse koopman Hendrick Trip, wiens familie veel bezittingen in Zweden had.

    From 1652 until his death Everdingen worked in Amsterdam. The waterfalls in the foregrounds of his paintings led to the artist being called the "inventor of cascades."
