Флорентинец Карло Дольчи пользовался при жизни очень широкой известностью. Его произведения всегда отличает блестящая техника и изысканность формы и цвета. «Святая Цецилия» – одна из лучших картин Дольчи. Покровительница музыкантов, Цецилия изображена за клавесином (История св. Цецилии – Legenda aurea, CLXVI). С необыкновенной достоверностью переданы скользкая фактура зеленого шелкового платья, прозрачная сероватая кисея шарфа, сверкающие камни аграфа. Лицо Цецилии спокойно и лишено какого бы то ни было вдохновения. Только сияние напоминает о том, что картина не является произведением светского характера.
