In the life of Charles François Daubigny

The whole life
  1. 1848

Prints for the Chalcographie du Louvre

In 1848 Daubigny worked for the Chalcographie du Louvre making facsimile prints, a testament to his great expertise in the art, and revisited the technique of aquatint in a less cumbersome process.

  2. 1852

    Meets Camille Corot at Optevoz

In 1852, at Optevoz in the Isère, Daubigny met Camille Corot, an encounter even more important to him than his move to Barbizon. Corot became his friend: they later experimented with printmaking together and sat side by side on the Salon jury.

  3. from 1852

Under Courbet's influence: views of Optevoz

From 1852 Daubigny was influenced by Gustave Courbet, a painter of his own generation who was also driven by realism; during a joint stay at Optevoz each of them painted a series of views of the place. According to other accounts, he had met Courbet even before Corot.
