London, United Kingdom
It belongs to the collection, but is not on display at present.
Lewis made a large number of rapid sketches, from which he later constructed his finished paintings, with the aid of his marvellous visual memory. As he rarely inscribed or dated these rough preliminary drawings, many have been lost, or remain unidentified. Similar trees appear in his paintings of both Turkey and Egypt.
