May one see it?
London, United Kingdom
It belongs to the collection, but is not on display at present.
This ivory statuette representing a soldier was probably made in about 1850 in Germany. The exact purpose of the figure is uncertain, and it may even have been made as a fragment to deceive. Although in style it recalls seventeenth-century pieces, it probably dates from the mid-nineteenth century, and is almost certainly German.
