About the work

In the museum's own words — in Dutch

Stamvader Simeon, ten halven lijve, zittend, het linkerbeen deels zichtbaar, achteromkijkend naar een groepje mensen bij een poort in de verte (een scène uit het leven van Simeon), in de rechterhand een zwaard, in de linkerhand de schede. De linkerarm steunt op een muur of steen. Onder de voorstelling twee regels tekst in Latijn. Deze prent is onderdeel van een serie van twaalf stamvaders van |sraël; elke prent in deze serie bestaat uit een beeltenis van een stamvader, ten halven lijve, en een tweeregelig onderschrift in Latijn.
