About the sculpture

This boxwood statuette is carved by an unknown artist in Mainz in Germany, ca. 1740. Inscribed on the back of the drapery are the initials I.C.H; this could be the signature of the sculptor Johann Caspar Hiernle (1710-1755), altough no other small-scale works are known by him.
