About the work

In 1955, Yoshida Hodaka traveled to Mexico, where he discovered Mayan art and culture with its distinct sculpture and architecture. Deeply affected by what he saw, he began creating a series of bold and dynamic abstractions inspired by Mayan headdresses and other cultural elements.
