In the life of Diego Rivera

The whole life
  1. 1954

    The death of Frida Kahlo

Rivera's volatile relationship with Kahlo lasted until her death; a year later, on 29 July 1955, he married Emma Hurtado.

  2. 1954

    Rejoins the Mexican Communist Party

Over time Rivera adopted a position in line with Stalin's course, and in 1954 he joined the Mexican Communist Party again.

  3. 1954

    Explaining his AMORC membership

Seeking readmission to the Communist Party, Rivera had to justify his AMORC activities, since the Party excluded Freemasons and found AMORC suspiciously similar; he said he had joined in order to infiltrate a typical “Yankee” organisation on behalf of Communism.

  4. 29 July 1955

    Married: Emma Hurtado

  5. 1955–1956

A second trip to the USSR

In 1955–1956 Rivera again travelled to the Soviet Union, where he had earlier stayed in 1927–1928.
