«Буфет с посудой» был представлен публике в декабре 1915 года на «Последней футуристической выставке “0,10”». Там же Казимир Малевич впервые показал «Черный квадрат» и другие супрематические композиции. Если Малевич выступил за отказ от изображения предмета, то произведения Розановой, напротив, свидетельствовали о поиске новых возможностей его воплощения. Это качество проявилось и в «Буфете с посудой».

Художница обращается к кубистической стилистике и разбивает монолитную конструкцию буфета с посудой на отдельные части. Кубистическому препарированию подвергается по большей части сам буфет, а хранящиеся в нем сокровища художница оставляет почти нетронутыми. Она с упоением выписывает каждый предмет и предлагает зрителю насладиться разнообразием фактур: тонкостью стекла, массивностью дерева, изяществом фарфора, деликатным блеском металла.

Все компоненты картины словно вложены в композицию, как тессеры в мозаику, или сшиты друг с другом, как кусочки в лоскутном одеяле. Именно так – гармонично скомбинированными кусочками – восхищенно называл картины Розановой критик, побывавший на выставке «0,10». Кажется, это определение не случайно, ведь тема шитья была очень близка художнице. Кусочек кувшина «пришит» к кусочку деревянной столешницы и овальному «лоскутку» чайной пары. По тому же принципу пэчворка соприкасаются с кубистическими гранями буфетного шкафа ножи, стакан и оставшаяся часть чайного сервиза. А вот ложка уже «пришита» к другому, отличному от кубистического, измерению. Она парит в невесомости на фоне бело-голубой, отсылающей к супрематизму абстракции, в которую превратилась салфетка.

«Буфет с посудой» входил в постоянную экспозицию Музея живописной культуры. Вместе с К. Малевичем, В. Татлиным, В. Кандинским, А. Древиным и другими художниками-авангардистами Ольга Розанова принимала активное участие в его создании. В 1929 году музей был закрыт, и «Буфет с посудой» вместе с 111 первоклассными шедеврами авангарда (среди них и «Черный квадрат» Малевича) был передан в Третьяковскую галерею по списку № 1.
