Amsterdam, Netherlands
The owner is known. Whether it is on view today, the museum does not say, and we were not trained to guess.
Meijer Bleekrode was an Amsterdam painter and designer. At the beginning of his career, he dedicated his work to the fight against Fascism and war by designing posters for various Socialist causes. During the war, the Jewish family went into hiding; however, Meijer and his wife Els were caught. They were deported to Sobibór on 20 April 1943 and murdered immediately upon arrival.
