    Degas: her first buyer, collectors and etching

    Degas was the first person to buy drawings from her, introduced her to other collectors, including Paul Durand-Ruel and Ambroise Vollard, and taught her the skill of soft-ground etching.

  3. 1909

    The affair with André Utter

    In 1909 Valadon began an affair with the painter André Utter, a 23-year-old friend of her son; he became her model and later her husband and the manager of her career, as well as of her son's.

  4. 1911

    First solo exhibition at Clovis Sagot's gallery

    In 1911 the first solo exhibition of Suzanne Valadon's work was held at the Galerie Clovis Sagot; from the same year she exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants.
