Miniatura ilustrează un episod din epopeea Shah Name, în care Iskandar (Alexandru cel Mare) ucide un dragon prin vicleșug, făcîndu-l să înghită o piele de bou umplută cu naft, o substanță inflamabilă. Scena se desfășoară într-un peisaj dominat în fundal de o stîncă. În prim plan, deasupra porții unei cetăți, trei personaje îmbrăcate în costume specifice Iranului secolului al XVII-lea privesc în jos cu uimire, sentiment exprimat la doi dintre ei prin gestul ducerii mîinii la gură. Întreaga compoziție este încadrată de un chenar cu vrejuri vegetale și florale.
