About the sculpture

This bronze statuette, depicting Samson and the Lion, is made by Bernardino Danese, in Italy (Rome), in ca. 1675.

Samson, a biblical figure, means either "of the sun" or "one who serves (God)". Samson is a Herculean-like figure, with tremendous strength given by God to combat his enemies and perform heroic acts, like for example wrestling with a lion.
