Apunte muy abocetado, a base de rasguños que insinúan un grupo de bueyes en primer plano. En segundo plano, a la derecha, una barca con la vela desplegada, dejando ver el mar a la izquierda y al fondo, la línea del horizonte. El reverso del dibujo es una nota manuscrita enviada por La Roda Hermanos a Sorolla, fechada el 7 de agosto de 1903.

A medal of honour in Madrid for “Sad Inheritance”
The painting won the medal of honour at the National Exhibition in Madrid. Two of its luminous preparatory oil sketches Sorolla gave as gifts to the American artists John Singer Sargent and William Merritt Chase.
