Maria zit met het kind op haar schoot bij een boom te rusten tijdens de vlucht naar Egypte. Jozef staat achter hen en leunt tegen de boomstam. Rond de zittende Maria en het Christuskind dansen putti. Twee putti zitten in de boom en vangen jonge kraaien uit een nest. Op de achtergrond is een bergachtig landschap weergegeven. Links- en rechtsboven zijn twee schilden met het keurvorstelijk en hertogelijk wapen van Saksen afgebeeld
