Achiziționat ca operă a școlii italiene de pictură, tabloul "Răpirea Proserpinei" a fost atribuit lui Magnasco de Theodor von Frimmel în 1894, fiind apoi astfel catalogat în toate publicațiile ulterioare ale muzeului. Începând cu deceniul șase al secolului XX, istorici de artă precum Syamken (1965), Franchina Guelfi (1977), Muti, De Sarno, (1994) prin descifrarea conotațiilor simbolice ale Iconologiei lui Cesare Ripa, intitulează "Răpirea Proserpinei", "Triumful Răului". Triumful Răului reprezintă momentul impactului Proserpinei, răpită de Pluto, în carul sau condus de Cerber și Fenice, cu împarația Tenebrelor. Zeița privește înspăimântată la personajele contorsionate spasmodic, cu chipurile devastate de forțele răului ce le posedă. Ele simbolizează Viciile, reinterpretate de dreapta Wolfgang Prohaska (catalogul expoziției retospective de la Milano, 1996). dreapta Prohaska definește Viciile, în succesiunea dispunerii lor de la dreapta spre stânga
