May one see it?
London, United Kingdom
It belongs to the collection, but is not on display at present.
This statuette represents a putto standing with left foot on a skull. It is made in the Netherlands in ca. 1650. A veil is around his left leg, across buttocks and around his right arm. The right arm is at the side; the left arm in front of chest. It is probably a Memento Mori (remembrance of death), which purpose is to remind people of their mortality.
The same composition is known in ivory (Met NY).
