Lucrarea, o compoziție cu trei personaje este o tipică scenă de gen reprezentând momentul în care o femeie în vârstă, proxeneta, îi dă indicații tinerei femei, în sensul de a fi docilă cu clientul, care-și pregătește banii, evaluând din priviri calitățile tinerei femei seminude. Personajele, dispuse în triunghi, se detașează cu claritate pe un fond brun roșcat, iar lumina dirijată evidențiază trăsăturile aspre ale bătrânei negociatoare, expresia atentă a clientului, și mai cu seamă trupul tânăr, robust, al prostituatei, redat în tonalități de ocru galben, cu accente de roz. Concepția realistă, chiar naturalistă a lucrării, lumina dirijată, paleta cromatică, atestă însușirea lecției caravaggiste, apartenenta lui Bronchorst la gruparea caravaggiștilor de la Utrecht. Tabloul a fost achiziționat ca operă de Jacob Jordaens și consemnat astfel în primele cataloage (Ä.K. și Die Gemälde-galerie), cunoscând în timp și alte atribuiri, precum Jan Victors (Frimmel, 1894
