The drama “Squire Blue Boll”
In the expressionist drama Squire Blue Boll (Der blaue Boll) the squire almost seduces a down-and-out young mother, before both achieve spiritual regeneration.
1928
Publishes his autobiography “Ein selbsterzähltes Leben”
Besides sculpture, Barlach wrote plays and prose — eight Expressionist dramas and two novels — and in 1928 published an autobiography in which he says of his 1906 journey: “Russia showed me its face.”
1931
Begins living with Marga Böhmer
From 1931 Barlach lived with Marga Böhmer, while her former husband and Barlach's friend Bernhard Böhmer lived with his new wife, Hella.
