Landscape with Orpheus and Eurydice is a 124 × 200 cm (approx 4 × 6.5 feet) oil-on-canvas painting by the French artist Nicolas Poussin, painted between 1650 and 1653. It depicts a mythological subject in the classical style and is in the collection of the Louvre in Paris.

André Félibien becomes friend and pupil
In 1647 André Félibien, secretary of the French embassy in Rome, became a friend and painting student of Poussin; later he wrote one of the first biographies of the artist.

A trembling hand: his health declines
After 1650 Poussin’s health declined and a tremor in his hand grew worse — evidence of it is visible in his late drawings.
