About the work

In the museum's own words — in Dutch

In de lucht Aurora, godin van de dageraad. Ze rent haar geliefde Apeliotes (de oostenwind) achterna. In de linkerhoek blaast Caecias, de noordoostenwind. In de rechterhoek blaast de zuidoostenwind Eurus. Eureus zijn wind wordt met bloemen vergezeld, die door Apeliotes worden verspreid over de aarde. Onderaan een Arabisch landschap met op een eiland tussen Eufraat en de Perzische Golf de zonen van Ismaël: Nebajot en zijn broers. In de marge een Latijns onderschrift met uitleg over de oostenwind.
