Nawab I'tisam al-Mulk, identified in the Persian inscription above his head, rides an elephant decorated in the flamboyant court style of the period, and is himself richly bedecked with jewellery. The shield and fly-whisk carried by his attendants are emblems of royalty. The painting was done in Hyderabad, Deccan, in about 1795.
