May one see it?
Minneapolis, United States
On public display.
For centuries, artists have studied human anatomy to attain knowledge and skills in modeling the body. In this double-
exposed black-and-white photograph, Nakahashi depicted his own hand assessed, measured, and proportioned by several rulers and a wood framework. Blending scientific study and subjective expression, the photograph presents “the hand of the artist” as an instrument of creative work and authorship.
In that way, My Left Hand functions as a conceptual self-portrait.
