About the painting

Edith Crapper (1896-1979) was a British illuminator and miniature painter active during the twentieth century, a period of revival of the art of the portrait miniature, led primarily by women artists in Britain and North America. This miniature depicts the artist's mother, Mrs Bertha Maria Crapper (born 1863) at age 80.
