Rechts op de voorgrond staat Johannes met een beker in de hand. Deze apostel stierf een natuurlijke dood, maar doorstond wel enige martelingen. Die zijn achter hem te zien: uiterst linksboven staat hij in een pan kokende olie, op het middenplan is te zien hoe hij een beker gif leegdrinkt. Onder de voorstelling een verklarende tekst in het Latijn.
