Anverso: Los novios En la parte superior, mujer vista de espaldas. Lleva falda larga de amplio vuelo, pañoleta sobre los hombros que cae en forma de pico en la espalda y pañuelo a la cabeza. Parece estar bailando, con un brazo en jarras sobre la cintura y un pie adelantado. En la zona inferior, hombre visto de espaldas, apoyado en una pared o la jamba de una puerta. Parece llevar media capa o manta sobre el hombro izquierdo y se cubre con sombrero de amplia ala y adorno en la banda. Tiene el brazo derecho a la espalda. Reverso: Rasguños Dibujo difícil de identificar, quizá una pequeña figura agachada.

Moves to Madrid: large canvases for the salons
The family moved to Madrid. For the next decade Sorolla concentrated on large canvases of orientalist, mythological, historical and social subjects for salons and international exhibitions in Madrid, Paris, Venice, Munich, Berlin and Chicago.

“A Research”: the Prize of Honour in Madrid
Two paintings linking art and science, “Portrait of Dr. Simarro at the Microscope” and “A Research”, won Sorolla the Prize of Honour at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He showed his friend Simarro in the laboratory, catching the contrast between the reddish-yellow light of a gas burner and the weak mauvish light from the window.
