Летний вечерний лиственный лес. На первом плане между высоких деревьев - тропа, слева и справа которой распиленные стволы деревьев, зеленая густая трава. По тропинке движется женщина в светлой кофте и темно-красно-коричневом сарафане, поддерживающая рукой предмет на голове. В глубине леса справа за деревьями два красных огонька - освещенные окна едва различимого дома с двускатной крышей, левее еще один огонек. Вдали сквозь деревья просвечивает малиново-сиренево-оранжевый горизонт вечернего закатного неба. Вверху под верхушками деревьев небо более светлое от последних лучей уже невидимого заходящего солнца, в оттенках заката. Колорит темно-зелено-сиренево-малиново-коричневый.

    Return to Russia

    Homesick, he returned to St. Petersburg before his fellowship term expired; that same year his painting "Air" and six drawings were exhibited in Moscow.

    World's Fair in Paris

    At the 1867 Exposition Universelle he showed several drawings and the painting "View in the Environs of Düsseldorf."

  3. 28 October 1868

    Marriage to Evgenia Vasilyeva

    He married Evgenia Alexandrovna Vasilyeva, sister of the landscape painter Fyodor Vasilyev; the marriage produced sons Vladimir and Konstantin, who died in infancy, and a daughter, Lidia.

  5. 1871

    "Pine Forest" at the 1st Peredvizhniki Exhibition

    The painting "Pine Forest. Mast-Timber Forest in Vyatka Province" was shown at the 1st Peredvizhniki exhibition in St. Petersburg, drew uniformly favorable reviews, and attracted the attention of Pavel Tretyakov; in March 1872 it won first prize in the competition of the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts.

    Founding Member of the Society of Russian Aquafortists

    He became a founding member of the Society of Russian Aquafortists; he practiced etching until the end of his life, devoting almost as much time to it as to painting.
