About the sculpture

Lady Barrington is shown nearly full face wearing a spotted muslin dress with an upstanding frill at the neck and short sleeves with long net undersleeves; a red drapery edged with gold guimpe covering the left shoulder is caught at the waist. Her curling brown hair is covered with a buff scarf spotted with red tied at tge left side. The curtain and drapery below the bust are in dark green wax but the background is of green satin. The gilt frame appears to be contemporary.

On the back there is an inscription reading ' To see these portraits to advantage hold the top of the frame parralell to the window so that all the features have equal light and shade. S.Percy Fecit 1809.'
