About the work

In the museum's own words — in Dutch

Christus troont als rechter op de wolken, omgeven door heiligen en apostelen. Op aarde staan de mensen op uit hun graf en worden verdeeld onder de engelen en duivels. Prent uit een serie van negen prenten met triomfwagens uit de Antwerpse Besnijdenis-ommegang van 1561. De personificaties op de wagens verbeelden samen de kringloop van het menselijk handelen. De serie wordt afgesloten door dit Laatste Oordeel, dat traditioneel op de laatste wagen in de ommegang uitgebeeld werd.

    Cort's first engravings were published in Antwerp around 1553; their publisher was Hieronymus Cock, with whom Cort may also have studied engraving.

    Move to Venice, Living in Titian's House

    In 1565–1566 Cort lived in Venice in the house of Titian, who immediately recognized his abilities and gave him his finest paintings to reproduce.

  5. 1570s

    Roman School of Engravers and Work for Lafreri

    In Rome he worked extensively for the publishing house of Antonio Lafreri and founded a famous school of engravers that produced a whole line of skilled masters; his manner was later developed by Agostino Carracci.
