About the work

In the museum's own words — in Dutch

Het snijden van de kei. Een kwakzalver, met tulband op het hoofd, bekrast met een scalpel het voorhoofd van een vrouw. De man achter de vrouw houdt haar hoofd vast en tast in zijn buidel. Op tafel liggen instrumenten en keien. Aan het bord op de achtergrond hangt een zegel met twee sleutels, wellicht het wapen van de stad Leiden. Onderaan een tekstregel in het Nederlands.
