  1. 1822

    Paris Salon debut

    Achille Devéria begins exhibiting his work at the Paris Salon.

  2. December 1824

    Meeting Victor Hugo

    Devéria meets Victor Hugo and his wife at the Odéon theater. A drawing promised at the meeting begins a correspondence and an exchange of visits.

  3. 1828

    Illustrating Faust

    Devéria’s illustrations for Goethe’s Faust are published.

  4. 1829

    Marriage to Céleste Motte

    Devéria marries Céleste Motte, daughter of the lithographer Charles Motte. Their home becomes a meeting place for the Romantic circle.

  5. 1849

    Appointments at the library and the Louvre

    Devéria is appointed head of the National Library’s print department and assistant curator of the Louvre’s Egyptian department.
