About the work

In the museum's own words — in Dutch

Allegorie op de jeugd, corresponderend met de vier tijden van de dag en de vier jaargetijden. Op de triomfwagen van de middag (Meredies) zitten Deugd (Virtus), Amor en Plezier (Voluptas), vergezeld door studerende kinderen. De wagen wordt getrokken door twee paarden, bereden door Stoutmoedigheid (Temeritas) en Kunst (Ars). De stoet wordt voorgegaan door een kind met een vaandel waarop de tekens van de dierenriem zijn afgebeeld, kreeft, leeuw en maagd, en Ambitie (Ambitio) te paard. Op de voorgrond ligt speelgoed. In de marge een vierregelig onderschrift, in twee kolommen, in het Latijn.
