May one see it?
Washington, D.C., United States
The owner is known. Whether it is on view today, the museum does not say, and we were not trained to guess.
James Monroe (1758-1831) served as the fifth president of the United States, from 1817 to 1825. This image is based on an engraving made in 1818 of a portrait of Monroe painted by fellow American artist John Vanderlyn.
