About the painting
On returning to the Netherlands from his sojourn in Italy, Adam Pijnacker specialized in southern landscapes
bathed in a golden Mediterranean light. His paintings are characterized by the tranquil atmosphere of a warm summer’s day. The long, raking shadows herald the fall of evening.
