About the work

In the museum's own words — in Dutch

De oude en blinde Isaak zegent Jakob, die bij het bed knielt. Met hulp van zijn moeder Rebekka, die op de rand van het bed zit, heeft hij zich vermomd als zijn broer Esau om de zegen te kunnen ontvangen. In zijn nek en over zijn handen draagt Jakob het vel van een bokje om op zijn behaarde broer te lijken. Op de achtergrond keert Esau terug van de jacht. Onder de voorstelling een verwijzing in het Latijn naar de Bijbeltekst in Gen. 27.
