Meanwhile, in the life of Eadweard Muybridge

The whole life
  1. 1893

Chicago: the Zoopraxographical Hall at the World’s Fair

At the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 Muybridge delivered a series of lectures on the “Science of Animal Locomotion” in the Zoopraxographical Hall, built specially for the purpose, and showed his moving pictures to a paying public; the hall is described as the first commercial movie theatre, and he also sold souvenir phenakistiscope discs.

  2. 1894

    Settling for good in England

In 1894 Muybridge retired to his native England for good and continued to lecture extensively throughout Great Britain; in 1896–1897 he returned to the US once more to settle financial affairs and dispose of property related to his work at the University of Pennsylvania.

  3. 1899

    “Animals in Motion” is published

Having retained control of his negatives, Muybridge published the popular book “Animals in Motion” (1899).

  4. 1901

“The Human Figure in Motion” is published

In 1901 Muybridge published the second of two popular books drawn from his negatives, “The Human Figure in Motion”, with recorded phases of the movement of men and women.
