A graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts (BFA 1983, MFA 1985), Tanaka Nobuyuki is one of the most highly regarded Japanese lacquer artists of his generation. He has been consistent throughout his thirty year career in using the dry lacquer technique to create often monumental but always gently profiled, abstract forms with meticulously finished surfaces that explore and celebrate the unique tactility, reflectivity and translucency of urushi lacquer. Tanaka is Professor of Lacquer at Kanazawa College of Art.
