Eliasson represents Denmark at the 50th Venice Biennale; later that year he opens “The Weather Project” at Tate Modern.

Marries Marianne Krogh Jensen
He marries the Danish art historian Marianne Krogh Jensen; the couple adopt a son (in 2003) and a daughter (in 2006) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The family lived in a house designed by the architect Andreas Lauritz Clemmensen in Hellerup near Copenhagen; the marriage later ended.

A new violin with Hans Jóhannsson
With the classical violin maker Hans Jóhannsson he develops a new instrument, aiming to reinterpret the violin-making traditions of the 17th and 18th centuries with today's technology and a contemporary visual aesthetic.

Eye See You lamps for Louis Vuitton and the 121Ethiopia foundation
Commissioned by Louis Vuitton, about four hundred deliberately low-tech lamps — a monofrequency light source and a parabolic mirror — are installed in the stores' Christmas windows, while a lamp titled You See Me goes on permanent display at Louis Vuitton Fifth Avenue in New York. All fees are donated to 121Ethiopia.org, a charitable foundation he initially established with his wife to renovate an orphanage.
