Hercules overwint met de hulp van zijn neef de hydra van Lerna. Hij slaat met zijn knots de hoofden van dit meerkoppige monster af en zijn neef schroeit de halzen dicht zodat er geen nieuwe hoofden kunnen groeien. Hercules wordt door een krab in zijn voet gebeten. De krabben zijn door Juno gestuurd om Hercules bij zijn taken te hinderen.
