About the work

In the museum's own words — in Dutch

Geometrie staat afgebeeld op een bouwterrein, gebogen over een wereldbol. Zij probeert met een passer de wereld op te meten. De personificatie van de meetkunde draagt een stedenkroon. Aan de basis van de wereldbol zijn een slang en een kikker waar te nemen: symbolen voor de creativiteit die van de structurele meetkunde werd geëist. Geometrische instrumenten als liniaal, meetlat en waterpas liggen verspreid op de grond. De prent heeft een Latijns onderschrift over de geometrie en maakt deel uit van een zevendelige serie over de zeven vrije kunsten.
