    In Parma by 1516: a friendship with Anselmi

    By 1516 Correggio was in Parma, where he spent most of his life; there he befriended Michelangelo Anselmi, a prominent Mannerist painter.

    Back in his home town, Correggio died suddenly on 5 March 1534; the following day he was buried in the church of San Francesco, near his youthful masterpiece, the “Madonna di San Francesco”. The precise location of his tomb is now unknown.
