Anverso: Hombre de espaldas En el centro, figura masculina sentada en una silla, de espaldas a nosotros. La silla tiene el respaldo curvilíneo con óvalo enrejado en el centro, y brazos. El hombre va vestido con chaqueta azul. Enmarcan la escena, a la derecha una línea vertical que debe corresponderse con una pared, y a la izquierda, una cortina recogida. Reverso: Figura sentada en una silla A la izquierda, figura posiblemente masculina, sentada en una silla, de perfil. Está ligeramente inclinada hacia delante.

    “A Research”: the Prize of Honour in Madrid

    Two paintings linking art and science, “Portrait of Dr. Simarro at the Microscope” and “A Research”, won Sorolla the Prize of Honour at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He showed his friend Simarro in the laboratory, catching the contrast between the reddish-yellow light of a gas burner and the weak mauvish light from the window.
