May one see it?
London, United Kingdom
It belongs to the collection, but is not on display at present.
This relief in polychrome enamelled terracotta, showing a female head, is made in Florence in the first half of the 16th century. The present relief was undoubtedly made as part of a general scheme of decoration; its great size and the rather crude painting of the eyes suggest that it must have been set at some distance from the ground. The developed mannerist style evident in the head would be consistent with a dating towards the middle of the 16th century.
