Anverso: Pasero, Jávea. Torso de pasero en mangas de camisa (configurada por abundantes trazos que simulan plieges y vuelo de la misma). Su cabeza, situada en el tercio superior del dibujo, de formas enérgicas, tiene el pelo configurado a base de trazos gruesos, a su vez las cejas muy marcadas, enmarcan una cara sin afeitar de trazos finos marcándose con trazos gruesos nariz, boca, barbilla y pelo. Reverso: Escaldando la uva, Jávea. Tres figuras distintas en el mismo dibujo. En el tercio izquierdo, torso de figura masculina algo flexionado y empezando a girarse, sujetando con sus dos brazos el gran cesto. El brazo y el cesto se sitúan en el centro del dibujo. Inmediatamente encima del cesto y a la derecha de la figura masculina, cabeza casi de perfil y en el ángulo superior derecho apunte rápido de cabeza.

The whole life1900
Grand Prix at the Paris Universal Exposition
“Sad Inheritance”, a huge canvas of crippled children bathing in the sea at Valencia under a monk’s supervision, brought Sorolla his greatest official recognition, the Grand Prix and a medal of honour, and his exhibit as a whole earned him nomination as a Knight of the Legion of Honour. After this picture he never returned to so overtly social a theme.

A medal of honour in Madrid for “Sad Inheritance”
The painting won the medal of honour at the National Exhibition in Madrid. Two of its luminous preparatory oil sketches Sorolla gave as gifts to the American artists John Singer Sargent and William Merritt Chase.
