Vista de una calle o un bulevar de una ciudad. En el centro, en primer plano, el tronco de un árbol. Tras él, unos bancos en los que se sientan distintas figuras: a la izquierda, figura femenina de espaldas y a la derecha, una figura femenina de frente y otra masculina, también de frente. Tras ellos, dos figuras, femenina y masculina, paseando. A la derecha, otra figura fémina también paseando. A la izquierda, en último plano, parte de un coche de caballos del que se ve bien el caballo y la rueda delantera, estando el resto tapado por el tronco de un árbol o una farola. En el reverso se ha copiado por contacto el dibujo con Nº Inv. 13345

Moves to Madrid: large canvases for the salons
The family moved to Madrid. For the next decade Sorolla concentrated on large canvases of orientalist, mythological, historical and social subjects for salons and international exhibitions in Madrid, Paris, Venice, Munich, Berlin and Chicago.

“A Research”: the Prize of Honour in Madrid
Two paintings linking art and science, “Portrait of Dr. Simarro at the Microscope” and “A Research”, won Sorolla the Prize of Honour at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He showed his friend Simarro in the laboratory, catching the contrast between the reddish-yellow light of a gas burner and the weak mauvish light from the window.
