In the life of Gerhard Richter
The whole life1963–1964
The first shows: Düsseldorf and Galerie Schmela
Richter first exhibits in Düsseldorf in 1963, and in 1964 has his first gallery solo show at Galerie Schmela in the same city. Exhibitions in Munich and Berlin soon follow, and by the early 1970s he shows frequently throughout Europe and the United States.
1966
Bruno Bischofberger is the first to show him abroad
In 1966 Bruno Bischofberger is the first to show Richter’s works outside Germany.
1968
A first holiday in Corsica and the start of his landscapes
After his first holiday, an excursion that left him besotted with the terrain of Corsica, Richter begins his independent series of landscapes in 1968; they have since formed a separate group in his oeuvre. Elements of landscape had appeared in his painting as early as 1963.
