En el lateral derecho y hacia el centro, figura femenina vista de perfil a la derecha sentada al borde de un banco de ciudad; junto a ella, a la derecha, rueda de carruaje. Hacia el centro, hombre sentado leyendo girado ligeramente hacia la izquierda. Su cabeza, inclinada, deja ver un sombrero canotier. En el lateral izquierdo, en el extremo del banco, figura masculina esbozada y el rostro de frente e insinuado; detrás de él, caballo esbozado de perfil a la derecha. En último término y hacia el centro, quiosco de cartelones y periódicos. En el reverso se ha copiado por contacto el dibujo con Nº Inv. 13175

    “A Research”: the Prize of Honour in Madrid

    Two paintings linking art and science, “Portrait of Dr. Simarro at the Microscope” and “A Research”, won Sorolla the Prize of Honour at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He showed his friend Simarro in the laboratory, catching the contrast between the reddish-yellow light of a gas burner and the weak mauvish light from the window.
