The whole life1911
Trip to Egypt
He visits Alexandria, Cairo, Giza, Memphis and Luxor, studying the monuments of ancient art with keen interest. The Egyptian masks that caught his eye later appear in such paintings as “Egyptian Masks”, “My Family” and “Portrait of Yeghishe Charents”.
1912
“Constantinople Dogs” in London
After his trip to Turkey he paints “Constantinople Dogs”, which is shown at the Second Post-Impressionist Exhibition at the Grafton Galleries in London.
1913
Trip to Iran
He visits Bandar-e Anzali, Rasht, Qazvin and Tehran. Back in Moscow, he sets up the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Armenian Monuments, concerned with the reconstruction of Echmiadzin Cathedral.
1915
Helps refugees in Echmiadzin
He goes to Echmiadzin to help refugees who fled the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
